Houston Brewery Guide

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

Checking out a craft brewery is one of our favorite things to do in the Houston area. There are TONS of breweries all over the city, and they each offer something unique. I would have never guessed that Houston would be a city with so much craft beer, but people love it! It’s a great way to get outside, hang out with your family/friends and try a new beverage.

Almost all of the breweries are family friendly and pet friendly. Most of them have food trucks on site or a full service restaurant, so be sure to come hungry. Also, several breweries allow you to bring a picnic of your own.

Take a look through the guide below if you’re wanting to learn more about the Houston Brewery Scene! I’ve divided it out by location and have included an overview of each brewery I’ve visited. As always, let me know if you have any questions about what you see in this guide. Cheers!

Downtown

8th Wonder Brewery

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

This brewery is one of my favorites because I love their beers, and I love the overall vibe of the brewery. They have old seats from the Astrodome inside the brewery and tons of Houston sports memorabilia. The outside of the brewery has tons of space and you can even sit inside an old shipping container. It’s super unique and really fun. Also, be sure to come hungry and try some of the loaded fries from the Eatsie Boys food truck!

  • Drinks: They only sell beer.
  • Food: There is a food truck called Eatsie Boys on site. You can also bring in outside food.
  • Dogs: They are allowed outside.
  • TVs: Yes
  • Atmosphere: There are places to sit both inside and outside. The inside of the brewery is much smaller than the outside. There are tons of tables to sit outside, so it’s a great place to be on a nice day.
  • My Favorite Thing: I love the decorations inside the brewery, and I love that they offer several IPAs and hoppy beers.

Buffalo Bayou Brewery

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

This is one of my current favorites because I am OBSESSED with the views of Houston’s Skyline from their rooftop patio. Buffalo Bayou recently opened this new location and it’s incredible. They have a full-service restaurant, and everything we ordered was delicious. They have everything from pizzas to salads to loaded fries. Your really can’t go wrong if you choose to dine here. The rooftop taproom on the third floor is amazing, and there’s plenty of room to hang out. Most of the area is covered, so it would be a great place to visit any time of year.

  • Drinks: They sell beer and wine.
  • Food: They have a full-service restaurant on the 2nd Floor, and they have have a few grab and go items on the 3rd Floor.
  • Dogs: Not allowed.
  • TVs: Yes
  • Atmosphere: This is a brand new facility that is comprised of three floors. The first floor is a small taproom where you can grab a beer and stay inside. The second floor is the full-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The third floor is the rooftop taproom that is all outside. The rooftop is mostly covered, so there is plenty of shade. There is also plenty of seating on the third floor as well.
  • My Favorite Thing: I love the view of the Houston City Skyline from this brewery.

Karbach Brewing Company

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

Even though they recently got bought by Anheuser-Busch, Karbach is still a fun brewery to visit in the Houston area. They have grown quite a bit, and they are known as one of the larger breweries in Houston. They have a full-service restaurant and a huge outdoor beer garden. It’s a great place to hang out with friends, as they have TONS of lawn games outside.

  • Drinks: They only sell beer.
  • Food: They have a full-service restaurant.
  • Dogs: They are allowed outside.
  • TVs: Yes
  • Atmosphere: Karbach has an outdoor beer garden and a separate full-service restaurant that has indoor seating. There’s a ton of space outside to hang out. They have a covered area with big picnic tables and they have some additional space for lawn games.
  • My Favorite Thing: I like their outdoor space and all the different lawn games they offer. I also appreciate that the outdoor tables are shaded!

St. Arnold Brewery

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

St. Arnold is one of the bigger breweries in Houston, and it’s one of my favorites. They recently opened a brand new beer garden and full-service restaurant. It’s a great place to watch a sporting event, as they have a big screen TV outside in the beer garden. The food is outstanding, and they offer everything from salads to burgers to pizzas to french fries. There really is something for everyone!

  • Drinks: They sell beer and wine.
  • Food: They have a full-service restaurant with an amazing menu.
  • Dogs: They are allowed outside.
  • TVs: Yes
  • Atmosphere: St. Arnold is comprised of many different areas. Their newest area consists of an amazing outdoor area with fountains and big screen TVs. Most of the outside area is covered. They also have a newer indoor area that is a full-service restaurant. It’s a great place to hang out with family and friends.
  • My Favorite Thing: I like the variety they offer with their beers. Also, the food at the restaurant is fantastic!

Magnolia

Lone Pint Brewery

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

Lone Pint is one of my favorite breweries because I love their beer so much. Yellow Rose is probably my favorite beer of all time! All of their beers are pretty heavy, so if you’re looking for something light and refreshing, this might not be the place for you. Overall, the brewery has more of a neighborhood feel to it, and it’s very family friendly. It is much smaller than many of the other breweries in the Houston area.

  • Drinks: They only sell beer.
  • Food: They typically have a food truck on site. You can also bring in outside food.
  • Dogs: They are allowed.
  • TVs: Yes
  • Atmosphere: It’s all outside seating! They don’t have an indoor facility. They have several picnic tables set-up outside in the grass and they usually have live music. It’s a fun area to hang out and bring a picnic. There’s always a lot of families and dogs at this brewery.
  • My Favorite Thing: Yellow Rose is by FAR my favorite beer.

Conroe

B52 Brewing

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

B52 is a really unique brewery because of their space. It’s the only brewery that I know of that’s located in a wooded, forestry area. It feels like you’re at a camp site when you’re at this brewery. They have a pretty good variety of beers, so you can be sure to find something for everyone. They always have a food truck on site, so come hungry!

  • Drinks: They sell beer and wine.
  • Food: They have a food truck on-site. I believe you can also bring in outside food.
  • Dogs: They are allowed.
  • TVs: Yes
  • Atmosphere: This brewery is pretty much all outside in a forest. There are TONS of trees, and it is unlike any other brewery. They have tons of seating including picnic tables and adirondack chairs. They have a smaller covered area that serves as their taproom. There is seating in the taproom as well.
  • My Favorite Thing: I love the atmosphere and that the brewery is located amongst the trees. It’s unlike any other brewery I’ve visited.

Southern Star Brewing Company

Houston Brewery Guide #Houston #Breweries

We haven’t been to Southern Star much, but if you are up in the Conroe area, be sure to check it out. They have a good variety of beers on tap, and they have a great facility. I think this brewery would be a good one to visit in the summer months since they have a nice indoor space with plenty of seating!

  • Drinks: They only sell beer.
  • Food: There is usually a food truck on-site. You can also bring in outside food.
  • Dogs: Yes – outside only.
  • TVs: Yes
  • Atmosphere: Southern Star is located in more of a warehouse type of facility. They also have a green space outside where they set-up a few tables and an outdoor bar.
  • My Favorite Thing: I love sipping on their Bombshell Blonde beer during the summer months since it is much lighter and very refreshing! You can also find this beer in cans at any of the local grocery stores.

What’s Next?

I feel like we have only scraped the surface when it comes to breweries in Houston. Our plan is to try and make it to several new breweries this year including:

  • Eureka Heights
  • SpindleTap Brewery
  • Platypus Brewing
  • 11 Below Brewing Company

Have y’all ever been to any of the breweries I mentioned in this guide? If so, what are some of your favorites? Let me know in the comments below. Cheers!
